Infant Adoption Training Initiative: Understanding Infant Adoption
Funded through a federal grant, our experienced social workers offer the Infant Adoption Training Initiative throughout Maine. This is a free training to help medical, social service, and education professionals provide compassionate, accurate, and effective information and counseling about adoption to those facing unintended pregnancies. The training provides CEUs for nurses and social workers and is conducted on-site. We provide lunch for all participants.
We know that health and social service providers may avoid discussing adoption with patients/clients when they are unsure about the adoption process and local resources. With the Understanding Infant Adoption curriculum, we help professionals learn about:
- the adoption process
- state and federal laws that govern adoption
- the impact of social and cultural issues
- adolescent development and attitudes toward adoption
- non-directive counseling techniques
- adoption resources and referrals.
