Home Study and Post-Placement Services
Home Study
The home study, which is required for all adoptions, enables MAPS to
ensure that you meet your state’s requirements and helps to prepare you
for your adoption. We are a fully-accredited agency, and whether you
are using MAPS for your adoption placement or are interested in home
study and post placement services only, we can help. In states where
MAPS is licensed to provide home study services (Maine, Massachusetts,
and Vermont), an experienced and compassionate MAPS social worker will
work closely with you to gain a better understanding of your
expectations and needs and to serve as a consistent source of support
for you throughout, and following, the process. (If you do not live in
one of the states in which we offer home study services, we will assist
you in finding a suitable home study agency near you.)
The MAPS home study staff will help you prioritize the required
paperwork and will answer questions that arise as you are completing
it. If you are adopting internationally, we will also submit and
monitor your application to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration
Services on your behalf.
During the home study, we will help you prepare for the challenges and
rewards that are unique to adoptive parenting. To help you understand
your baby's or child’s needs, to connect with other waiting families,
and to answer all your questions about adoptive parenting, we also
offer adoption education classes as part of the home study process.
This stage is an important stop along the adoption journey and requires
you to open your hearts and home to follow the path towards parenting.
You will be glad you did.
Post-Placement Services
In the initial months after placement, your social worker will visit
with you and your family to answer your questions, provide support
services, and meet state and/or inter-country requirements for
post-placement follow-up. During this post-placement period, we will
guide you through the finalization/recognition court process, in many
states eliminating the need for an attorney. We also help families to
network with each other and will always be available to serve as a
resource for adoption support.
